The World is on the Verge of WW3 and I Still Haven’t Been to Capetown

The World is on the Verge of World War 3 and I still haven’t been to Cape Town. The World is on the Verge of World War 3 and I still haven’t been to Cape Town. The World is on the Verge of World War 3 and I still haven’t been to Cape Town.

What the heck is going on in the world?!

Everybody who is close to me knows I am fascinated with South African culture and it dynamics. The similarities between Zulu and Xhosa that makes the language intelligible to the speakers. The Zulu history. The apartheid period. The traditional customs and their norms.

I also added a trip to Qatar and Tanzania as well to my goals for this year, and now Qatar is in chaos and the entire Middle East is getting missiled left and right? Kilode?! Oginni di!

America’s electorate made a choice and now my fellow millennials and I have to grapple with the results of their choice? Why is petrol suddenly 1k plus? WHY?!

Because someone has a grandiose ego and thinks the whole world revolves around them, their country, and a so-called dream that is a vanity project because guess what? THEY WILL ALL DIE. BUT BEFORE THEN THEY ARE DETERMINED TO DRAG THE WHOLE WORLD INTO THEIR CHAOS.

Deep heavy sigh! I am tiyad!

I keep experiencing things I read about in books and watch in movies. There was absolutely no reason for me to experience a World War 3! And to even make it worse, it is literally in my face. I cannot run away from the news even if I tried. It is on WhatsApp, TikTok, Twitter, IG.

Then you have one Muslim cleric declaring everybody should get carted to Iran so we can all die and everything will end. Please sir!

I don’t even know where to start from. How do you recalibrate when life events are this unpredictable?

In serious terms, I sometimes feel maybe nature has decided to deal my generation funny luck. We are the ones clocking 30 without giant investments and houses like was easily the standard roughly 20 years ago. I remember my 30-plus aunties and uncles were stable, well put together, and always had wads of cash to give me as gifts.

The almost-30 me and my group of girls are still doing complex math while planning Sunday brunch. Kilode gan?!

And I am not going to lie, I have had to tell some of the girls that it seems marrying as a source of income is dead on arrival because even the guys are going through it!

All of this is too much and I can only hope it ends before it fully starts. No war has ever been non-destructive, and there would definitely be ripple effects of the ongoing USA-Israel-Iran conflict all over the globe. I just want it to end.

Will I ever get to go on the gondola ride in Qatar?

Will I get to swim with the turtles in Zanzibar?

Will I ever get to experience the beauty of capetown and get heady with the surrealism of South Africa landscape?

Because what war definitely brings is death and destructrion. Landmarks and history reduced to rubbles and ruins for no absolute reason. Gosh!

Can I just breathe and enjoy my youth please?
