You expect me to take the mortal threat of a lopsided, mostly confused system seriously?

Watching doomsday, utopia, existential shows about the end of the world, disease, robots and humanoids wiping everyone out of existence was a core part of my childhood. I watch those shows and get filled with dread and depression that hang around me and follow me like a shadow for days on end. When COVID became serious in 2020 and the news became rife with stories of people dying in numbers across the world, all the fear I had locked up and tucked away came rushing back. Is this the end? Why my own generation? I wondered why this COVID whatever couldn’t have been a part of a history book chapter. Alas, it was happening right there in my youth!

When the osanle tech bro raised the alarm about how AI would kill all of us a few weeks ago, all I did was “hiss,” because is the solution that removes the head of a dog I’m editing and turns it backwards, then removes an eye when I ask it to change eye colour, really what I should be scared of? Abi aye AI fe baje ni?

I still cussed out that darn tool a few weeks ago, never mind the whole talk about being polite to AI so it doesn’t kill one when the whole world takeover starts. For those dumb ass agents? They would probably cripple the polite folks instead of leaving them be because AI is just dumb like that.

In fact, one of my contribution to society is debasing AI.

AI is dumb, give it instructions on erasing humans and it would start doing nonsense.

I am all for people using AI to maximize their efficiency however it works for them, but allowing it to completely erode every sense of creativity, simple functioning and thinking, that is the only form of death that is truly tragic, because it is already happening. A trending music dance video of the Swedish Rapper Yung Lean, which was quite creative and unique and must have taken effort and hours put into choreographic practice, has been fed into AI with lacklustre recreations being churned out in numbers. One had the audacity to say “here is how I created…” What the heck did you create? How can you call yourself a creator when you literally dumbed down someone’s creative effort just because you can?

I do not believe we have anything to worry about; even if it would happen, the people AI would take out first are those who use ChatGPT to diagnose the disease they have and input symptoms and follow AI recommendations on treatment. That would be natural selection at play but AI will take the glory. The second batch will be people who are quick to quote ChatGPT as their single source of truth and reference.

C-suite are churning out lifeless, lazy AI renditions meant to be an address to the staff or their team. The excess sprinkling of dashes, em-dashes and ‘’quietly doing and achieving’’ phrase that AI is notorious colours their entire writeup making it physically hurtful to read.  I have seen ugly AI logos and heard soulless AI movies. In fact, one of my mother’s favourite pastimes on TikTok is being deeply engrossed in AI stories that often revolve around a wicked mother-in-law and her daughter-in-law, watching the way the characters’ attire changes mid-action, a head rolling to the back of their necks, and their accent switching from a hard-to-place Nigerian accent to American English. I say, cut the cameras! This is the real death! A slow but still super hasty murdering of cognitive and creative thinking. I see AI advertisements on terrestrial TVs and AI designs on school buses and company buildings. To me, that is the truest form of death the menace, yes, menace, called AI has caused. AI has already killed us; whatever form of death that will come in the future cannot be worse than the death we have already experienced. And when it happens, it will be us dying twice.
